Three Hares

When nature watches
We are truly seen
As by three hares
Chasing each other
Through unmarked graves
Coming to a stop
To look
At two figures
Standing like trees
Perhaps so rooted
In naked grief
That hares had to look again
Because
They came thundering past
Only feet away
As they chased each other
Amorously
Through the willow fence
Buds sprouting
Like tall ears

One Response to Three Hares

  1. I wish there were a way to spare you your deep grief. Unfortunately the universe doesn’t work that way. I wish you healing and peace.
