Final Gift

There is no final gift from you
No well chosen
Yuletide message of love
Penned in a card
With Santa on the front
Wrapped in a bow
Placed under Norway Spruce

And no final gift that I can give to you
To thank you for 22 good years
And two fine boys
And countless happy memories
Except what I can whisper
By your graveside Alder
Into the mysterious void

In the Funeral Parlour window
There is a sad little tree
Plastic and tinsel, growing in grief
On the branches
Hang fake Christmas gift tags
I wrote one for you
In lieu of one final gift

  1. Sandy, this so perfectly expresses your loss. I feel your sorrow and pain. Thinking of you.
